Liana Napalkova holds the PhD degree in engineering science (Management Information Technology) from the Riga Technical University, Latvia, in 2011. Her PhD thesis was focused on the development of multi-objective simulation-based optimization methods for cyclic supply chain planning.

Liana was a Visiting Research Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, where she developed an optimal motion planning method for computer-assisted surgical training.

She is currently a Project leader at AsLogic, a spin-off company of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain. Her current research interests include optimization of ground handling operations in airports. She is involved in projects concerned with the development and exploitation of intelligent decision support systems aimed at minimization of congestion and delays in airports.

Liana is author and co-author of 14 scientific papers.
